Grey + Turquoise

I hope that everyone had a restful (and stylish!) weekend. I put together a few more outfits on Shoplook recently, and am looking forward to sharing them with you here. 🙂

On Shoplook, i labeled this ensemble “the duchess of style” because it may remind you of the kind of outfit worn by at least one famous duchess — possibly even two!

This ensemble includes some surprising contradictions — the J. Crew dress (which I feel mixed feelings about, since the photos of the dress on the company’s website look very different than what we see here) rings in at around $170, while the Cartier watch tops the list at just north of $6,000. My point? Fashion may be expensive, but style doesn’t have to be.

With a little creativity and persistence, a similar version of this outfit could be created quite easily. Rather than zeroing in on the brand, look for the style that you like with a less costly label — for instance, this Skagen watch (definitely not a Cartier) evokes a similar, but not identical, feeling to the one by Cartier. I’m sort of partial to the Skagen watch, if I’m honest! I like its simple design.

Otherwise, a versatile look like this can be worn year-round — just nix the heavy coat during the warmer months, perhaps opting for a blazer instead — and is a great option for a daytime event. And by the way, can you guess what my favorite part of this ensemble is? The Mark Cross box tote with the double stripes (it introduces a little whimsy into the outfit without overpowering it).
