It’s been awhile since I have done a wedding dress review, so I thought I would add one into the mix for this week. However, there is one small catch:

This striking white and gold dress (Look #18) from Marchesa’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection isn’t actually a wedding dress at all. It’s simply a white formal gown. However, for the more avant garde bride-to-be out there, this dress may very well be one worth considering. 🤔

What I like:

I really like the way that the gold offsets the white here, as well as the intricate gold embellishments on the bodice. The earrings pair well with the ensemble, too.

What I do not like:

Let’s get real for a moment. This looks like the kind of dress Beyonce might wear on the red carpet, no? So this gown walks that fine line between being classy and looking like a prom dress (which is why I generally am not a big fan of Marchesa designs), and the prom dress may have won here. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I probably would’ve felt different had the gown’s waistline looked a little more modest.

What I would change:

I would ensure that the waistline is covered, and would also take out the random, fleur de lis underlay in favor of something more uniform.

My overall score: I give this ensemble a cautious 👍🏾, as the dress is distinctive and elegant in its own way. I still don’t like those translucent patches on the waistline, though. 😩
